Working method

Every horse is unique and therefore deserves a customized approach. That is why I work in a calm, horse-friendly manner and take the time to put each animal at ease. This ensures that the treatment is pleasant for both the horse and the owner. I also always allow the horse's owner to watch and feel what I am doing during the treatment, so that you, as the owner, can experience for yourself what I am doing.

How does an appointment work?

1. Introduction & intake
At the first appointment, we start with a short conversation. I ask about your horse's background, any complaints, and previous dental care. This gives me a good picture of the situation.

2. Dental inspection
Then I perform a thorough dental check-up. I look at the general health, wear and tear, any hooks, sharp edges, inflammation, incisors, any stump teeth or wolf teeth, or other abnormalities in the mouth.

3. Treatment
If necessary, I will start treatment immediately. This is done using only electrical equipment, which allows for the most accurate work. The molars are balanced and, if desired, bit seats are made to ensure a comfortable bit position. If wolf teeth, loose caps, or similar issues are detected, these will also be removed in consultation with the owner. During the treatment, you can watch and feel what is happening. Everything is done in a calm and respectful manner, without unnecessary stress.

4. Explanation & advice
After the treatment, I discuss what I have done and give advice on follow-up care, nutrition, or riding techniques that may be related to the teeth.

5. Aftercare & follow-up appointments
In most cases, an annual check-up is sufficient, but for some horses I recommend more frequent maintenance. I am happy to work with you to determine what is best for your horse.

6. Referral if necessary
In extreme or complex cases where surgical intervention is necessary, I always refer to a competent veterinarian. The welfare of your horse is paramount, and I am happy to work with reliable professionals to ensure the best care.

Why I work with an electric file

I work exclusively with an electric file, which is a conscious choice. This method is not only more efficient, but also much more accurate and comfortable for the horse.

With an electric file, I can trim the teeth evenly and precisely, without applying too much pressure or movement in the mouth. This makes the treatment faster and less stressful for the horse. Especially when a lot of correction is needed, this offers a real advantage.

In addition, the electric file allows me to work safely and effectively in hard-to-reach areas (such as the back of the mouth), something that is often more difficult with a hand file.

In short: the electric file makes it possible to give your horse the best possible dental care in an animal- and customer-friendly way.

All equipment is thoroughly cleaned after each treatment so that I can always work cleanly on the next horse.
